Apart from an interesting-looking carved dagger, the box was full of crockery, much of it broken. (New Concept English, Book 3, L. 34)
《新概念英语》(3)(安徽科技出版社,p.141)说:“这里的 it 指 crockery,it 和 broken 之间省略了 was。”
分析方法讲解后,学生们问我“如果把省略掉的 was 补上去之后,那么 much of it was broken 这个分句与前面的分句 the box was full of crockery 是什么关系呢?”
按我们的看法,much of it broken 是一个独立结构,具体点儿说,是一个带逻辑主语的过去分词结构(Nominative Absolute Past Participle Construction)。 much of it broken
-
They stood there silently, their eyes fixed on the horizon.
-
His work finished, he left with joy.
-
We are less credulous than we used to be. In the nineteenth century, a novelist would bring his story to a conclusion by presenting his readers with a series of coincidences—most of them wildly improbable.
