recommend sb. to do sth.
《朗文当代高级英语词典》(商务印书馆,1998,p.1847)在辨析 advise 和 recommend 这两个同义词时说:“Both verbs can mean ‘to tell someone what you think should be done’ but are followed by different verb patterns. 这两个动词的意思都表示‘告诉某人你认为应该做什么’,但是后面接的动词句型却不一样:
The doctor advised me to stay in bed. 医生要我卧床。/The doctor recommended that I (should) stay in bed. 医生建议我(应该)卧床。”
请问 recommend 真的不能用在 recommend sb. to do sth. 结构中吗?
recommend除用于recommend that结构之外,亦可用于recommend sb. to do sth.和recommend doing sth.结构。CGEL的作者们在§16.63中明确指出,recommend也用于直接宾语+to-不定式句型,即与tell/advise/persuade具有相同的用法。下面让我们用实例来证明这三种并存的用法:
A. 1. I recommend that everyone (should) buy this dictionary. (LDCE) 我建议每个人都买这本词典。
