我认为,下句中的 contents 应改为 content 或去掉不定冠词 A, 因为 contents 是复数, 不能与不定冠词连用:
“A complete contents is to be found in Volume I. 在第一卷可以查到全部目录。”(《英语常见问题解答大词典》第四次印刷本，p.174)

作“目录”解的 contents, 只能以 -s 复数形式出现, 但是, 在语义上被看作是单数, 因此, 可与不定冠词连用, 并与单数谓语动词连用:
