当强调排好的“顺序”含义时，在顺序数词之前要加定冠词表示特定；当强调在原来的数量之上再加上“又一个”的数量概念时，则可在序数词之前加不定冠词(a second, a third, a fourth)。句(1)的a third boy表示在上面提到的两个男孩之外“又一个男孩”。这里不涉及谁排第一、第二、第三的问题。句(2)可以作同样的解释。
