have to 和 have got to 在表示“必须”这个意义时,是否可以互换?
在表示一次性动作时, have to 和 have got to 是可以互换的:
-
I have (got) to be back by ten o'clock.
-
I haven't got to work tomorrow.
但是,当表示习惯性动作时,尤其是当句中含有表示经常性的副词(如 always, often, sometimes 等)时,则应使用 have to, 而不使用 have got to:
-
I don't usually have to work on Sundays.
-
I often have to get up at 5.
R. Quirk
"Jim's got to check the temperature every 12 hours. [1]
Jim has to check the temperature every 12 hours. [2]
have got to tends not to have habitual meaning, and when combined with a verb of dynamic meaning, tends to refer to the future... Whereas[1] is likely to have the force of directive, stipulating what Jim's duties will be in the future,[2] is more likely to indicate a habitual action ‘This is what Jim's present duties consist of’
-
They didn't have to worry about money.
-
I had to walk very fast to overtake you.
-
I shall have to help him as much as I can. (Snow)
-
He may have to cancel his plan.
-
People are having to boil their drinking water during this emergency. (CGEL)
-
The administration has had to make unpopular decisions. (CGEL)
