(A)Had we better not leave now?
(B) Hadn't we better leave now?
A. 否定词 not 放在整个习语 had better 之后, 即 had better not:
-
I'd better not disturb him.
-
We had better not begin just yet.
-
He warned me that I had better not say anything about that.
-
You had better not ask him about it.
-
You had better not say it at once.
-
We'd better not go until your sister comes.
-
Had we better not go to the station? (Would it be advisable if we didn't go?)
B. 否定词 not 放在 had better 的第一个词之后, 即 hadn't better 或 had not better。
-
Hadn't you better go with her?
-
Hadn't you better make haste?
-
Had I not better take him upstairs and let him die down a little?
-
Hadn't we better lock the door? (CGEL)
-
Hadn't we better go to the station to meet your mother? (Shaw)
a) Had we better not go? (“Would it be advisable if we didn’t go?”)
b) Hadn't we better go? ("I think we had better go; don't you agree?")
