虽然 stick to, insist on 和 persist in 的常见译法都是“坚持”，但是它们的意义和用法是有区别的。

stick to 后接名词或代词时是指“遵守”“信守”“不放弃”“坚守”“坚持”“坚持干”常与表示“真理”“原则”“观点”“决定”“计划”“理论”的词语连用：

1. We've decided to stick to our previous plan. 我们已决定坚持原来的计划。

2. If you stick to the truth, you've nothing to fear. 如果你坚持真理,你就没有什么可怕的。

3. He stuck to it and eventually finished the job. 他坚持干,终于把这个活干完了。

4. He is sticking to his principles in this matter. 在这件事上他坚持他的原则。

5. I've made my decision and I'm going to stick to it. 我已作了决定，而且我会坚守这一立场。stick to 后接动名词时，则表示“坚持正在做的事情”“继续做某事”：

6. If you stick to (stick at) practising the piano every day, you could become quite a good musician. 假如你坚持每天练习钢琴，你能成为一名出色的音乐家。

7. Reporters should stick to investigating the facts. 记者们应当坚持调查这些事实。

insist on 后接名词或代词表示“坚持认为(说)”或“坚决主张”“坚决要求某物”：

1. He insisted on his innocence. 他坚持(说)他是无罪的。

2. I insist upon an answer. 我坚决要求回答。

3. They are insisting on immediate repayment. 他们要求立即偿还款项。

insist on 后接动名词时表示“坚持要去做”：

1. I insisted on driving him home. 我坚持要开车送他回家。

2. He insisted upon her staying in London. 他坚持要她暂住伦敦。

persist in 虽然常常译作“坚持”，但其实际含义是“继续(做)某事”“固执(做)某事”，而不是“坚持要去做某事”或“坚决要求某人去做某事”。因此，它与 insist on 在词义上是不同的（参见 insist/persist）：

1. Why do you persist in interrupting me when I have repeatedly asked you to stop. 我已经反复请你不要打岔，为什么你还要坚持打断我的话？

2. If you persist in breaking the law you will go to prison. 如果你执意违法的话,你会进监狱的。

3. He didn't want to tell her, but she persisted (in asking). 他不想告诉她，可她执意要问。

4. Why do you persist in writing such things? 为什么你老是坚持写这样的东西？
