object to/oppose/be opposed to

这三个词的基本含义相同,只是附加的意义色彩有些差别。object to 表示动态,有时有“短暂”“突然”的含义,可用于小事或大事:

1. They objected to eating dinner at 10 p.m. 他们对在晚上10点钟吃晚餐提出了异议。

2. I object to such treatment/to being treated like this. 对这种待遇[受到这样的待遇]我表示抗议。

oppose 也表示动态, 是一个正式语体词, 含有“经过认真考虑”的附加意义:

1. Most of the local residents opposed the closing of their hospital. 大多数当地居民反对关闭他们的医院。

2. He opposed the proposal to build a new hall. 他反对修建新礼堂的建议。

be opposed to 表示状态,即表示人所抱的态度或所持的立场,可表长期性或经常性的“反对”,并有“强烈反对”的附加含义:

1. He was opposed to the development of nuclear weapons ... 他反对研制核武器……

2. She's opposed to religious education in schools( = She thinks it is a bad thing). 她反对在学校进行宗教教育。

3. He is not opposed to making money or owning property ... (Hillary, Living History) 他不是反对赚钱和投资……
