where ¹¹

就一般情形而论，在关系副词 where 之前通常不加介词，如 in, to, under 等。但是 from where 却是个例外。

1. His head soon appeared out of one of the second storey windows, from where he could see nothing but trees. 不久，他把头从第三层楼一个窗口里伸出去，从那里他只能看到树。

2. We went up to the roof, from where we had a good view of the procession. 我们上到了房顶，从那里我们清楚地看到了游行队伍。

3. The car stopped short only a few inches from where I stood. 他的汽车突然停了下来，离我站的地方只有几英寸。

能否选 A 呢？绝对不能！因为关系副词 where 只能表示 in(on, at, to) which，而不能表示 from which:

That's the place $\$left\{ \begin{array}{l} in which \\ where \end{array} \right\} she was born. (CGEL)

由此可见，C是唯一正确答案。
