最后一句似应译为：
它也可能是 Rachel is more courageous than Saul(is). 这个句子的一个否定句。
为了使大家深入了解 not more... than 结构的实质,这里有必要作一些解释。
原作者认为 not more... than 这个结构是有歧义的。Rachel is not more courageous than Saul. 可以理解为“雷切尔不如索尔勇敢(即索尔比雷切尔勇敢)”，也可理解为“雷切尔并不比索尔更勇敢(即两个人都勇敢)”。根据后一个意思，可以把 Rachel is not more courageous than Saul. 看作是 Rachel is more courageous than Saul. (雷切尔比索尔更勇敢) 的否定句。
这就是说, not more... than 除用于表示不同等的比较之外, 还可用于表示同等比较, 在语义上相当于 as... as...。CGEL 的作者们认为 as... as 与 not more... than 具有同义性:
