先记住与这两个动词有关的两个名词: adapter(改编者), adopter(养父/母), 就容易区分这两个动词了。
adapt 意为“使改变以适应”“改编”(alter, make suitable for a purpose):

adopt 意为“采纳,收养”(accept):
