want to do/doing/to be done

want 后跟动词不定式, 表示“愿望, 希望”(wish, desire):

1. Somebody wants to see you, sir. (Priestley) 有人希望见你, 先生。

2. She doesn't want to be separated from this man. (Shaw) 她不愿与这个男人分开。

want 后跟动名词表示“需要”“要求”，而且动名词表示被动意义：

1. Your hair wants cutting. (ALD) (= to be cut) 你的头发需要剪了。

2. Your coat wants brushing. (Maugham) (= to be brushed) 你的外衣需要刷了。

3. The door wants painting. (= to be painted) (CGEL) 这门需要涂油漆。

4. I've got a couple of jobs that want doing in the garden. (EED) 我找到了一些需要在花园里干的活儿。
