从译文看，“改变热的自然流向”和“通过进一步加热较暖的周围环境使冷冻机变冷”似乎是指两码事。但热学知识告诉我们，它们并不是指两码事，而是指一码事。热的自然流向是指“热从较热的物体流向较冷的物体”。“改变热的自然流向”，就是指使热从较冷的物体流向较热的物体。因此，“通过进一步加热较热的周围环境的方法来使冷冻机的内部变冷”跟“改变热的自然流向”本质上是一样的，只不过是后面的说法比前面的说法更具体一点罢了。译文的毛病就是出在对 and 的误解上：译者忽略了 and 有时还用来表示同位关系。一般可译为“即”“亦即”“也就是说”等等。例如：
