adverse/averse

adverse作“不利的”“反对的”解，如adverse conditions（不利的条件），adverse criticism（有害的批评），adverse opinion（反对意见），adverse circumstances（不利的环境，逆境）。

1. Dirt and disease are adverse to the best growth of children. (Thorndike) 肮脏和疾病对于儿童的健康成长是有害的。

2. The employees had an adverse opinion of the company plan. 雇员们反对公司的计划。

averse 则作“不愿意”(unwilling)解：
