在 all + 名词这一结构中,名词总是表示无定的事物或者泛指的事物。

1. All roads lead to Rome. (Prov) 条条道路通罗马。

2. All men are mortal. 人总是要死的。

而在 all the + 名词这一结构中,名词总是表示有定的事物。这里的名词或者由定语来限定或者被语言环境所确定。

1. Do all the people in your country take a vacation? (TOEFL) 你们国家所有的人都度假吗?

2. All the children trust one another. (由语言环境所确定, 听说双方都知道 all the children 是指哪些孩子) 这里所有的孩子都互相信任。

上面的区别也适用于 all students 与 all of the students。
