a good thirty people 中的 people 为复数名词,为什么在它的前面要用不定冠词 a。
英语里有一些不定冠词 + 形容词的结构, 如 a mere, a good, a bare, a scant, a solid, a full, a cool, 专门用在数字之前, 表示对数字评估或说话人的口气。
-
He has often described to me how he picked up a masterpiece for a mere £ 5. (New Concept English, Book 3)
-
He earns a cool two thousands a month.
-
For a full ten minutes he dared not look at Christina. (Cronin)
-
It's a good three miles to the station. (NAECD)
-
He got a solid 500 votes...
-
Vernet did not breathe again until the truck was a good fifty metres down the street. (Dan Brown, The Da Vinci Code)
