名词 study 既可用来表达“动作”或“活动”（the act or process of studying），例如，He spent the afternoon in study.（他把一下午的时间都用在学习上了。）；又可用来表示事物：“学科”（a branch of knowledge）。从汉语的角度来说，说“对热的研究称为‘热力学’，是物理学的一个分支”，显然是不恰当的。这种不恰当，恰好反映出译者对原文的误解。
