在让步状语从句中，人们常常使用 may。但是，may 并没有什么词汇含义，而只具有语体含义（表示正式庄重的语体）。因此，在让步状语从句中不使用 may/might 的实例随处可见，见 以及下条之 D 项。再如：
Whatever my grandfather was trying to tell me, I don't think he wanted anyone else to hear it. (Dan Brown, The Da Vinci Code) 无论祖父想告诉我些什么，我认为，他都不愿意让旁人听到。（《达·芬奇密码》）
