onto/on to/on

onto 可以写成一个词,也可以写成两个词 on to,其意义不变。onto(或 on to)只用于表示移动方向或到达的目的地,而不能表示静态的位置。其意义是 on 和 to 这两个介词意义的叠加:到……上面去。例如:

1. Ann climbed onto the roof. (CGEL) 安爬到了房顶上。

2. He jumped onto the horse. (LDCE) 他一跃跳到马上。

3. The burglar climbed on to the roof. (Wood) 窃贼爬到了房顶上。

on 既可表示位置,也可表示方向:

1. Let's sit on the grass. (ELD) 让我们坐在草地上吧。
