no more/not any more ¹

no more, no longer 主要用于正式语体：

1. That day we read no more. (IME) 那天我们没再阅读。

2. Natural magnets are no longer used in compasses. 指南针中已不再使用天然磁铁了。

3. When you break up a molecule of water, you no longer have water at all. 当你把水分子分解后，你就不再有水了。

其次, any more, any longer 在否定句中要用在动词的后面。而 no more 和 no longer 的位置则比较灵活：

1. No more will the creators of a new element be able to name it after a famous scientist (lawrencium), city (berkelium), or state (californium). (TOEFL) 新元素的发现者不再用著名科学家的名字来命名(镑)，用城市名来命名(镑)或用州名来命名(铡)了。

2. The shore was no longer in sight. (DAI) 海岸不再看得见了。

3. He could no longer be trusted and they had to let him go. (DAI) 他不再被信任,因此他们解雇了他。

4. The glory of youth will be yours no longer. (IME) 青年的荣誉将不再属于你们。

5. Today taping a suspect's phone is no longer allowed unless the investigators have a court order to do so. (TOEFL) 现在已不允许对嫌疑人的电话进行录音，除非调查者持有法院的命令。

6. They often sold their land or gave it away without realizing that it would no longer be theirs. （TOEFL）他们常常卖掉土地或是赠送给别人，而没有意识到土地将不再属于他们。 (参见下条)
