我们对此持有不同的看法。就我们掌握的材料来看，不管 way 是指具体的办法、方法、手段，还是指较抽象的做法，很少使用 the way by which，而大都使用 the way in which，the way that 或者 the way（零关系代词）。例如，下面各句中 way 有的是指“具体的办法、方法、手段”，但其定语从句用的也是 in which，而不是 by which：
