go on doing sth. 中的 doing 是动名词,还是现在分词? 钱歌川教授在《英文疑难详解续篇》(p.135)中说:on 为副词,doing 是现在分词。是这样吗?

我们在先前的著作(《初高中英语考点难点详解词典》, p. 332)中把 go on 看作是一个整体, 起及物动词的作用, 而把后面的 doing 看成是动名词, 作 go on 的宾语。令我们感到高兴的是, 最近出版的 Longman Grammar of Spoken and Written English (p. 411) 的论述使我们的观点找到了根据:
"To mark continuation of some general action (transtive, taking a complement -ing or to -infinitive clause as direct object):
Labour would go on getting the public's support by constructing strong unity of purpose.
Bjornsson went on to study the newspapers of 11 countries."
