will ³ (表规律)

这里的 will 不是表示将来时间,而是表示现在时间。当表示某些根据自然规律必定会发生的事情时,常常使用这种结构。当然也可以用一般现在时来代替它。在这一点上它们是同义的(参见 present tense $^{2}$ ):

1. If the pure water is heated to $100^{\$circ}\mathrm{C} , it will boil (boils). 如果纯净的水加热至 $100^{\$circ}\mathrm{C} 它就会沸腾。

2. Friction will cause (causes) the bearings to become heated. 摩擦会使轴承变热。

3. A magnetic needle will point (points) towards the magnetic north pole. 磁针总是指向北磁极。

4. If litmus paper is dipped in acid, it will turn red. 如果石蕊试纸浸上酸，它就会变红。

5. Every solid object will reflect a sound, varying according to the size and nature of the object. (NCE,4,L.9) 每一个坚实的物体均能反射声音,其声音各不相同,视物体的大小和性质而定。

6. Oil and water will not mix. (MD) 油和水不相溶。

7. Stainless steel will not rust. 不锈钢是不会生锈的。

8. If sugar will dissolve in a hot liquid, this chemical will do so too. 如果说糖在热的液体中会溶解的话,那么这种化学品也是如此。

9. Matches will not strike if they are damp. (Wood) 火柴如果潮湿, 就划不着。

will 尤其常常用于表示当某种条件得到满足时所必然出现的结果。而这种条件和结果并不是指某一具体的情景。因此，我们在科技英语中会经常看到这种用法。
