方式状语从句由连词 as, as if, as though 来引导。在 as 之前常常用 just 或 exactly 来加强。

1. When in Rome do as Romans do. 在罗马就要像罗马人那样去做(入乡随俗)。

2. Do it as I do(it). 照我做的样子去做。

3. I did just as you told me. 我正是按你的吩咐做的。

4. He acted as if he were mad. 看他的举止,好像疯了似的。

5. He spoke as though he knew all about our plans. 听他说话的口气,似乎他对我们的计划了如指掌。

6. She treated me as though I were a stranger. 她对待我就好像我是个陌生人似的。

[附注]虽然规定语法学派反对把like用作连词,但是,在美国英语中以及在非正式的英国英语中,把like用作连词以代替as或as if的例子俯拾即是。有的英语词典甚至把like用作连词的用法作为正面例句列出:

1. No one does it like he does. 谁都不像他那样做。

2. Do it like I tell you. 按我告诉你的那样去做。

3. He acted like he owned the shop. 看他的举止,好像他拥有这家商店似的。

4. He sat there smiling like it was his birthday. 他面带笑容坐在那里，好像过生日似的。
