如把 sun, earth, moon 看作是独一无二的事物一样,人们把 universe 也看作是独一无二的事物,故必须带定冠词。而 space 是指地球大气层以外、恒星和行星存在于其中的“空间”（“太空”“外层空间”“宇宙空间”），是个不可数名词,故不带定冠词,见space 。
又,句(1)中的 the space 不作“太空”解,而作“空间”解。作“空间”解的 space 不仅可用作不可数名词,亦可用作可数名词:
They found a parking space close to the museum. 他们在博物馆附近找到了一个停车的地方。
