《朗文英语语法》(外研社，p.425)说:在 It's time (that) 之后既可用过去时,也可用虚拟语气: It's (high) time he was (were) taught a lesson. 现在是该教训教训他的时候了。 但是,我在其他语法书上却没有查到用 were 型虚拟语气的例句。这是怎么回事呢?

CGEL的作者们提出了与《朗文英语语法》完全相反的观点：“The were-subjunctive cannot replace the hypothetical past in constructions introduced by It's time (that), eg: It's time I was in bed.”(CGEL, p. 1013) (“在It's time (that)引导的结构中，例如：在It's time I was in bed中，were型虚拟语气不能代替假设过去时。”)
