sympathy for/sympathy with

绝大部分现代英英辞典均对 sympathy for 与 sympathy with 的词义作了区分。前者表“同情”“怜悯”，后者表“同感”“赞同”。

1. People feel immediate sympathy for a man left alone with his children. 人们对单独带孩子过日子的男人会立即表示同情。

2. On that point I'm in sympathy with Mr McCabe. 关于这一点我同意麦克凯布先生的观点。

WBD:

1. We feel sympathy for a person who is ill. 我们会对患病的人表示同情。

2. He is in sympathy with my plan. 他同意我的计划。

ALD:

1. feel sympathy for sb. 对某人表同情

2. He's wrong—I have no sympathy with him. 他错了——我不同意他的意见。EED:

3. If you have sympathy for someone who has had a misfortune, you are sorry for them, and show this in the way you behave towards them. 如果你对不幸的人表示同情(sympathy for),那就是你可怜他们,并在对待他们的行为方式上表现出来。

当然,有时也可以遇到违背上述原则的用法:

3. Most doctors have sympathy with the patients. (《考试备用英汉词典》) 大多数医生对病人具有同情心。
