prepositional phrase (介词短语)

在上句里，介词短语 on the shelf 作宾语补足语。一般而论，介词短语几乎可以作句子的任何成分：

A. 主语(见 prepositional phrase as subject, subject $^{2}$ ):

1. On Tuesday will be fine. 在星期二将是很好的。

2. After lunch is usually a quiet time. 午饭后通常是寂静的时间。

B. 状语：

There's a river in the picture. 画里有一条河。

C. 表语(主语补足语):

That looks like a good film. 这看起来是一部很好的电影。

D. 宾语补足语：

I found everything in good condition. 我发现一切状况良好。

E. 定语：

1. “Which boy?” “The one on the black bike.” “哪个男孩?”“骑黑色自行车的那一个。”

2. Who's the girl under the desk? 书桌下面的那个女孩是谁?

F. 介词宾语(见下条):

They were mostly elected from among the workers. 他们大多数是从工人中选出来的。
G. 同位语：

1. the news of the team's victory 球队获胜的消息

2. the word of truth “真理”这个词
