clothing 是衣服的总称, 是个集合名词, 无复数形式, 除衣服之外, 还包括鞋、帽等。

1. Food here is cheaper than in Britain; clothing, on the other hand, is dearer. (Wood) 这里的食品比英国便宜,服装则贵一些。

2. A coat is an article of clothing. (ALD) 外衣是一件衣服。

clothes 指上衣、下衣、外衣、内衣等, 无单数, 只有复数, 但不能受数词修饰, 可受 many, few 修饰。

1. He had to buy a good many clothes. 他必须买许多衣服。

2. She often wears beautiful clothes. 她经常穿着漂亮的衣服。
