no-one/no one

在英文原著中这两种拼写形式都是可以见到的。

1. No one of them really understands the problems. (Perrin) 他们没有一个人真正懂得这些问题。

2. No-one wished me a happy birthday. (PEU) 没有人祝贺我生日快乐。

M. Swan 认为 no-one 为英国英语, no one 为美国英语。T. Wood 则认为: “Write no one, not no-one”。RWRT 的作者们认为, 最受欢迎的形式是 no one。

在 A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language 中则只出现一种形式:no one:

1. No one could have blamed themselves for that. (§ 10.50) 可能没有人因为那件事而责备自己。

2. No one should pride themselves on this result. (§6.3) 谁也不应当对这个结果感到自豪。

由此可以看出, no one 和 no-one 在英语里是并存的, 在目前尚没有出现只使用一种形式的统一局面。
