injure/hurt/wound

在中学阶段可以把 injure 与 hurt 在上述意义上看作是同义词,而不去抠它们之间的区别,因为它们都可以表示:

A. 使受伤

1. A bullet injured his eye. 一粒子弹打伤了他的一只眼睛。

2. He was injured in a traffic accident. 他在一次交通事故中受了伤。

3. The driver hurt himself badly in the accident. 汽车司机在事故中受了重伤。

4. He was hurt in a traffic accident. 他在一次交通事故中受了伤。

B. 伤害、损害

1. Drinking can injure one's health. 饮酒对健康有害。

2. I hope I did not injure her feelings. 我希望我没有伤害她的感情。

3. That'll hurt her feelings. 那会伤她的感情的。

hurt 的另一含义“疼”“使疼痛”。这一含义是 injure 所没有的：

1. My feet hurt. 我的脚疼。

2. My shoes hurt me. 我的鞋穿起来很疼。

要注意, injure, hurt 与 wound 是有区别的。wound 是指利器或子弹对身体造成的严重的外伤, 尤其指在战斗中所受的伤:

1. He was wounded in the arm. 他手臂受了伤。

2. The bullet wounded the policeman in the left arm. 子弹打伤了警察的左臂。

wound 也可以表示对感情的伤害：

What you have said has wounded me. 你的话刺伤了我。
