audience/spectator

意义上的区别: audience 既指听众, 又指观众, 而 spectator 仅指观众, 尤指体育比赛的观众:

1. Then the curtain descended; and the audience dispersed slowly. (Shaw) 然后帷幕落下了, 观众们慢慢地散去了。

2. The radio programme has an audience of several million. (OSD)

广播节目有几百万听众。

3. The spectators rose to their feet to pay tribute to an outstanding performance.

观众们都站了起来，为这一精彩的表演喝彩。

在语法上, audience 是个集合名词(见 audience), 不能用来指个体, 而 spectator 是个可数名词, 可以用来指个人。
