shall I (we) ? /you shall

疑问句 Shall I? 中的 shall 与肯定句 you(he) shall... 中的 shall 不同。在肯定句 you(he) shall... 中, shall 并不表示主语 you(he) 的意愿或许诺, 而是表示说话人的意愿或许诺。例如:

1. You shall do as you please. (LEG) 你可以随意做你的事。

2. “Whatever you want you shall have,” said the Fairy. (Wells) “你要什么就可以得到什么，”仙女说。

3. I promise you shall see her again before long. (Macaulay) 我保证你不久就能再见到她。

4. He shall get his money. (Leech) 他可以拿到他的钱(我让他拿到他的钱)。

5. You shall go to the ball, Cinderella. 我一定让你去参加舞会的，灰姑娘。

在疑问句 shall I(we)? 中 shall 表示的则是听话人的意愿或允许, 因此它主要用于向对方提出建议并征求对方的同意。

1. Shall I open the window for you? (PEU) 我给您打开窗户好吗？

2. “Shall we sit here?” (Palmer) “我们坐这儿好吗?”

3. What shall we do this evening? Shall we listen to some music? (Leech) 今天晚上我们干什么呢？我们听听音乐好吗？

4. Shall I come in? 您要我进来吗？（我可以进来吗？）

因此之故, shall I(we) 常常用在 let's 引出的祈使句之后:

1. Let's take a taxi, shall we? 我们坐出租车好吗？

2. Let's enjoy ourselves, shall we? (CGEL) 我们玩玩好吗?

现在来谈谈如何回答此类问句。这里有多种回答方式，但是绝不能用 you shall 来回答。常用的回答方式有 Yes, please. No, thank you:

1. A: Shall we carry your suitcases? 要我们来给您拿箱子吗?

B: Yes, please do (so). 好,请拿吧。

2. “Shall I get you a chair?” “Yes, please.” (LDCE) “要我给你搬把椅子来吗？”“好吧。”

用 Yes, let's 来回答。

1. “Shall we go?” “Yes, let's.” (LDCE) “我们走好吗?”“好的,我们走吧。”

2. “Shall we have dinner?” “Yes, let's.” (CGEL) “我们吃饭好吗?” “好的，吃吧。”用其他方式回答：

3. Shall we go for a swim? We can/could/might go for a walk. (LEG) 我们去游泳好吗？我们不妨去散步。

4. “Shall we sit here?” “We may as well.” (Palmer) “我们坐这儿好吗?” “坐坐也好。”

这里还应指出，you(he) shall 还可用于表示命令或威胁：

1. She shall not stay under my roof! (Dreiser) 不许她住在我家里!

2. He shall be punished if he disobeys. (CGEL) 如果他不服从就处罚他。

3. He shall suffer for this. (Eckersley) 他一定会为这件事吃苦头的。
