《牛津现代高级英汉双解词典》(p.1192)将 temporal 与 temporary 均译作“暂时的”。它们的语义相同吗？
这两个词词形相似,但语义有很大区别。temporal 表示“与时间有关的”,如 temporal clause(时间状语从句),temporal conjunctions(时间连词),a temporal art(时间艺术)。而 temporary 表示“暂时的”“临时的”,如 a temporary job(临时工作),a temporary phenomenon(暂时现象),a temporary solution(暂时的解决方案),temporary pleasures(短暂的欢乐),temporary absence(短暂的缺席),temporary advantage(暂时的优点),a temporary arrangement(暂时的安排),a temporary appointment(临时任命),temporary measures(临时措施)。
但是,有时候 temporal 也作“暂时的”(lasting for a relatively short time)。这样,它在词义上就与 temporary 发生交叉。请看下面的 GRE 题:

上面的译文将 tended to 分别译为“日渐成为”和“很容易成为”，似乎与句意相矛盾。但我又不知如何译，请指教。
上面的两个译文确实有自相矛盾之处。本来就位于高山峻岭之上从而与文明世界隔绝的山村，怎么会“日渐成为贫穷的村落”或“很容易成为贫穷的居民区”呢？这岂不是说它们原来是很富裕繁华的地区吗？上面的译文之所以发生误解，主要是因为受了英汉词典译法的影响。例如，《新英汉词典》对 tend 译法是：①走向；趋向；②倾向；③有助于。然而，tend 还有一个常见含义：If something tends to happen, it happens usually or often. (EED)（如果说某事 tends to happen，那就是说某事通常发生或经常发生）。请看下面的例句：
