原译完全背离了原文的含义。究其原因，主要是原译者没有搞清名词 research 的用法。为了表达“对……的研究”这一含义，英语里只能说 research on, research in, research into，而不能说 research of。请看下面的实例：

2. So far little research has been done on the effects of automation on the workers. (Wood) 到目前为止,人们对于自动化对工人的影响还很少进行研究。

误译的另一个原因，是原译者忽略了 of 短语与其中心词之间存在着多种多样的语义关系。在 ${\mathrm{<span\; class="latin-run">N</span>}}_1+\mathrm{<span\; class="latin-run">o</span>}\mathrm{<span\; class="latin-run">f</span>}+{\mathrm{<span\; class="latin-run">N</span>}}_2$N_{1} + of + N_{2} 结构里 ${\mathrm{<span\; class="latin-run">N</span>}}_2$N_{2} 既可能是宾语性的，也可能是主语性的。例如，the trial of the conspirators（对阴谋家的审判），the effects of noise upon these American sailors（噪音对这些美国水兵的影响）。你所提出的英文原句的 of 短语属于后一用法。
