把 no better than 译为“不比……强”，那么 not better than 该如何翻译呢？

not better than 与 no better than 所表达的意思是完全不同的。A is not better than B 只是简单地进行程度上的比较，一般可译为“A 不比 B 好(强)”。至于 B 本身是好(强)还是不好（差），这样的句子本身是反映不出来的。A is no better than B 与 A is not better than B 不同，它并不对 A 和 B 进行程度上的比较，而是用来着重表达 A 和 B 都很坏(差)这样一种口气的。广而言之，no + 形容词比较级 + than 具有极言形容词反面性质的特点：no better than 极言其坏，no bigger than 极言其小，no more than 极言其少，no fewer than 极言其多，no wider than 极言其窄，no larger than 极言其小，no thicker than 极言其薄。
