上句中的 with his hands tied behind his back 叫做带 with 的独立结构。这种结构的特征就是在一般的独立结构的逻辑主语之前加个介词 with。其意义和用法与一般的独立结构相同，但是它更加口语化。这是我国英语考试中的一个常考项目，不可掉以轻心：
