英语语法著作把 in case 从句放在目的状语里讨论是恰当的。但应指出, in case 从句与其他目的状语不同, 它不是表示正面的目的, 而是表示否定的目的。CGEL 的作者们是这样来解释 in case 从句的:

Take your umbrella in case it rains. = Take your umbrella in order that, if it rains, you may not be affected. 带上你的伞，以防下雨（带上你的伞，以便下雨时你不会被雨淋着）。
